Where did you grow up?

Paterson, NJ

What personal challenges have you overcome or are working through as a result of your upbringing?

Being raised by a single mother and being born into a heavily gang-affiliated family I only had two options... Rep the set or I better be successful at something. I chose to be different and inspire my loved ones. I became the first person in my family to graduate with a master's degree.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I wanted to become the therapist that younger me needed when I was in the streets.

What are your specialties?

Teens, couples, survivor's remorse, racial stress, and fatherlessness.

Biography:

I earned my professional nickname "The Neighborhood Therapist" due to my unique ability to reach people regardless of where they are from. It's something that has to be experienced to truly understand.  I have the accolades and achievements, but I do this for the culture, the community, for US! I want to be that helping hand reaching out as someone is walking in the confusion and chaos. It's easy to write about all the professional things I have done, but I much rather you hear it from me while we discuss what's affecting you. Come vibe with me.

Where did you grow up?

Saginaw, Michigan

What personal challenges have you overcome or are working through as a result of your upbringing?

Single parent household, black female who fought cancer from my middle school years until her death when I turned 20. She worked 12 hour days so I raised myself with the help of the boys/men in the hood. I learned quickly how to manage like the men in my hood and due to that I was introduced to lifestyle choices/options many girls weren't.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I have a law enforcement, corrections and investigations background. I felt more and more that I was not truly "helping" because of ethical boundaries I was restrained by. Becoming a therapist has permitted me to be more of help to those who need it most and remain ethical and within reasonable limitations.

What are your specialties?

I work well with late teens and young adults, I "get" them and they "get" me. I speak the language and I am of the culture. Because of my background and history, I am adaptable in any setting, in room. My clients feel the passion I have and it's transmitted to them and their success. I work equally as well with seasoned adults, both men and women.

Biography:

My career began as a Correctional Officer with the State of Texas in 1999. Later law enforcement included being a Sheriff's Officer, Parole Officer and Investigator for the abuse and neglect of elderly and disabled adults. While working in the investigative role in 2010, I decided to return to school to obtain a Degree in Counseling Psychology from Tarleton State University to add to my BS in Criminal Justice and MA in Organizational Management. I began working in private practice in 2013 as an Intern until I obtained my full licensure in 2014. In each career field mentioned, I interestingly worked with the same population of people, so I feel as if my career came "full circle" with obtaining my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) license.

Where did you grow up?

Tucson, Arizona

What personal challenges have you overcome or are working through as a result of your upbringing?

I grew up in a single-parent household with several older siblings. Our mother worked several jobs while also putting herself through college which, was a very positive example for us however, she was unfortunately physically and emotionally unavailable throughout most of our formative years. This created gaps in self-esteem, self identity and ultimately healthy decision making abilities.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

I have always known that becoming a helper was my purpose. I often times found myself in positions where I was serving as a safe sounding board or confidant for love ones or friends experiencing personal challenges. After I separated from the United States Air Force, it was a natural transition for me to then pursue my ultimate passion which was becoming a social worker and meeting the diverse needs of the public.

What are your specialties?

I specialize in working with women navigating through issues surrounding low self-esteem, grief, trauma, anxiety, depression and intimate partner violence.
